We are sooooo very Thankful and full at yarn.

28 November 2008 | Category: | 3 Responses »

Its Black Friday, but here at yarn it has been a very colorful day.  I have had some lovely ladies in knitting and keeping me company, the yarn and the conversation was very fun and colorful, thanks ladies.  There have also been several out-of-towners that have come to check out yarn, and we are very thankful to them for taking the time out of their busy shopping, eating, and visiting schedule.   It was very fun helping all of you, and we hope those projects turn out great!!!  I do want to take a moment to be serious (Shannon does wit and sarcasm so much better, so I won’t even go there) and to thank each and everyone of you for your support these last three years.  I am truly blessed to have met and become friends with soooooo many wonderful people.  I can’t begin to put into words how thankful I am for all of you and what you bring to our yarn community.  It is never dull and, after all, where else would you see 9ft needles, dancing yarnettes and soooo much happiness.  So thank you again and I look forward to seeing all of you and all of your knitted projects in the coming months.  Since I can’t keep begin to knit as fast and I can find great projects, I’ll have to live vicariously through all of you.   Don’t be a stranger and maybe if I am real lucky I will have a CHLC sighting before the Thanksgiving weekend is over.  I would be super thankful for that!!!! along with Julie’s awesome pumpking pie.   Julie, you made me look great at dessert time on Thanksgiving.

the perfect poncho:check out the look of wonder and excitement on deb w. face…i mean that kind of expression of joy is normally reserved for young children and small dogs…don’t you want to knit this awesome poncho? (seriously we are uber glad that deb w. is back and she kind of knit the samples for december single-handed)

snuggly slippers: these are warm, fuzzy, and perfect for winter. (also knit by deb w….we really were lost without her)

an ode to my GoKnit pouch

4 November 2008 | Category: | 1 Response »

oh GoKnit pouch, how do i love thee? let me count the ways…

one: a couple of weeks ago when i was forced privileged to attend the k-state/ou game, my trusty GoKnit pouch kept my knitting free from stadium gunk. though i have learned that should i find myself in that situation again i will be sure to pack knitting on circular needles..perhaps socks. anywho..if you notice in the photo my poor brother, bug, is well and truly squished. i poked him with my needles more than once and a least some of those times were on accident.

Two: when i got up before the sun to vote this morning you helped me to confuse the old people (she a radical young person with PINK hair, but she is knitting…i don’t know whether to shake my fist or pat her back) really the expressions this morning almost made me glad i wasn’t in bed. AND i was productive. i gained three inches while i stood in line. also, side note, you can use a collapsible pen as a cable needle if you are desperate.

my GoKnit pouch brings me joy….you should get one…then you could have joy too.

join us for twisted stitches tonight, where we promise a complete “political free” zone. no politics will be discussed..none…seriously.

p.s. i’m sitting here looking at jean ramsey…she’s baaaaccck! get excited people.

how was your hop?

those of us who were entrenched here at yarn had a wonderful weekend. we enjoyed seeing all of the new faces and, hopefully, we didn’t scare anyone off from visiting us again.

let me share with you my favorite story from hop weekend…there happened to be a yarnado that was created out of a skein of ribbon yarn. instead of just untangling the mess and moving on with our day, jody and i decided it would be far more fun to make a race out of it. she took one end and i took the other and we tried to see who could end up with the biggest ball once we reached the center…..there was some yelling, and taunting, and….well….jody won. but just wait until next time…i will have my revenge.

share with us your best story from the yarn hop…if they are good and obnoxious we’ll post them on the blog!

oh…im also taking a poll…cause i can do that…..do you think coral is more pinkish or more orangeish? (debbie thinks i’m color blind, and i’m taking it kind of personally….wouldn’t you?)

cheers….shannon

ooooooh look

and some people made a big fat stinking deal out of it, you now get to see pictures with very little writing on my part.

cindy the overachiever finally finished her sweater…it took for freaking ever to get this photo.

the miller residence modeled the big grasshopper hat…it also took forever for this photo…she kept giggling and blurring everything.

now here are pretty pictures of the trunk show we have from deep south fibers

plus more pretty pictures of the store!

these are the women responsible for the store transformations….i find its best to stand back and attempt to stay out of the chaos when this is happening, but let me tell you the spectacle is better the anything on reality tv. cheers…shannon

jody’s knitting (shannon’s typing)

now with spelling corrections!

jody sends hello to cyberspace from yarn. since our shannon (the awesome) is gainfully employed cranking out the newsletter (and desperately trying to ignore the 8 million distractions in the shop) the blog business has fallen to my shoulders. the good news is this is a temporary situation (that’s what she thinks…i plan on making you all write a blog entry muhahahahaha) the subject today friends, is knitting-i know big surprise. my newest project is a scarf, knit with the shop’s beautiful amazing new jacos 100% bulky yarn. our karen, wise in the ways of all things pattern related, helped reveal it is a double moss stich that is being knitted into this newest project of mine. (and a big thankyou to karen who keeps us all from looking like idiots)

jacos 100% bulky

so here is a picture to peak your interest. the variegated colors are beautiful. i am having a lot of fun with it so far. not very difficult, yet interseting enough so you won’t fall asleep on your needles. (i want major points for having never done that)

ciao–jody (cheers…shannon)

peformance art–yarn style!

before you ask…no there wasn’t any interpretive dance. but i chalk that up to the absence of merideth and a barry manilow cd.

now without further delay…here are pictures!

PA160016

cindy the overachiever felt the need to fluff the pom pom…

PA160028

seriously i think this should be a regular look…doesn’t he look more cozy this way?

PA160032

crazy aunt mary looks beautiful in andrea’s beret..doesn’t she? let me share with you my favorite moment of the night…mary has left the group to go to the parking lot to fetch a jacket for heather. she is gone for a couple minutes, then we hear “SHANNON!?!” *echo* so i reply “AUNT MARY?!” “SHANNON HOW DO I GET OUT OF HERE?”*echo* “I DON’T KNOW..WHERE ARE YOU?” “BY THE RIVER” *echo* “WHY THE HELL ARE YOU BY COW CREEK?!” ….i went and got her.

no martinis in the park

PA160034

this is a better picture of the whole group…jan and jody are riding the grasshopper….

PA160037

ah cindy…she almost looks cheery and sweet in the photo doesn’t she? you would never guess that she spent most of the night yelling at me….(but you probably would guess that i totally deserved it)

PA160042

sarah and susan knitting diligently despite the chill

PA160039

we can even teach knitting in the dark…jane has lighted knitting needles.

PA160045

the smart people sat under a street light…notice how i am not in the picture.

PA160064

in the end a good time was had by all. i drove by the grasshopper this morning..he looked cold.
